José Luís Guerín

Spanish filmmaker whose work has been recognized at numerous international festivals. His first feature film, Los motivos de Berta (1983), received a special mention at the San Sebastián Film Festival and the Premio Especial Calidad awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Guerín achieved international recognition with Innisfree (1990), which was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes and won awards at several Spanish festivals. Perhaps his most acclaimed film is En construcción (2000). Among other prizes, it received the Goya Award for Best Documentary Film and the Special Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI International Critics Award, the latter two granted by the San Sebastián Film Festival. A highlight among his most recent works is La academia de las musas (2015), which won the Golden Giraldillo at the Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla and the Best Fiction Direction Award at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de las Indias.
